Have you ever wanted to write poetry but weren't sure where to begin? Or wondered if there was a creative part of yourself just waiting to be uncovered?
Join yoga teacher and writer, Mary Campbell, for an afternoon exploring the connection between movement, mindfulness, and the written word. Through gentle yoga, meditation, and the simple, accessible form of haiku poetry, you'll discover how slowing down can awaken creativity and help you find words that are already within you.
We'll begin with a nourishing yoga practice to soften and stimulate the body and mind before transitioning into an introduction to haiku, a traditional Japanese form of poetry that invites us to notice the extraordinary in ordinary moments. Though often recognized for its concise structure, haiku isn't about getting the words "right." It's about paying attention. With just a few lines, anyone can capture a feeling, an image, or a fleeting moment in time.
Gentle prompts, examples, and plenty of encouragement will nudge your creative juices to the page where you'll be invited to write without pressure or expectation. No writing or yoga experience is necessary, only curiosity. Whether you leave with one poem or many, you'll also leave with practices you can return to whenever you're looking to reconnect with yourself, your creativity, or the page.
Optional sharing will conclude our afternoon together in the spirit of community and camaraderie. All are welcome. No experience with either practice needed to attend.
Please bring: A notebook and pen. If you have photographs, meaningful objects, stones, artwork, or other small items that inspire you, you're welcome to bring them along. They may become the inspiration for your very first haiku.

Mary Campbell was born with a pen in her hand. Even though writing has never been at the forefront in her professional life, she has boxes of journals tracking her history as a “writer” in her personal life! When Mary began teaching yoga, she instantly moved toward the written word to inspire her classes. She’s hoping to warmly encourage others to begin to explore what might be the nascent writer or poet, just beneath the surface, that’s ready to blossom.
